AISI 8620 steel is a low alloy nickel, chrome, molybdenum case hardened steel, usually supplied as a coiled steel with a maximum hardness of HB 255max. SAE 8620 steel provides high external strength and good internalstrength, making it highly wear resistant. AISI 8620 steel has a highercore strength than 8615 and 8617. AISI 8620 steel

is a low alloy nickel, chromium, molybdenum case hardening steel, as
usually fed as a roll with maximum hardness HB

255max. SAE 8620 steel provides high external strength and good internal
strength, making it very wear-resistant. AISI 8620 steel has a higher
strength than the core grades 8615 and 8617.

SAE 8620 steel is
flexible during hardening treatment, which allows improvement
case / main properties. Pre-quenched and tempered (uncarburized) 8620 can
be additionally hardened nitriding surface, but will not meet
satisfactory flame or induction hardening due to its low carbon
content.

Steel 8620 is suitable for applications requiring
combination of strength and wear resistance. This variety is usually
supplied in round bar.

1.AISI 8620 steel supply range

8620 Round Bar: Dia 80mm - 1200mm
8620 steel plate: thickness 10mm - 1500mm x width 200mm - 3000mm
8620 Area Bar: 140mm - 460mm
8620 tube is also available upon your detailed request.
Surface Finish: Black, Rough Machined, Chiseled, or as specified.

4. AISI 8620 steel Mechanical properties

8620 Physical properties:

Specific gravity 7.8
Specific Heat (BTU / lb / degrees F - [32-212 degrees Fahrenheit]) 0.1
Melting point (degrees F) 2600
Thermal conductivity 26
Average coefficient of thermal expansion 6.6
Elastic modulus Stress 31

5. Forging material 8620 steel

AISI
8620 alloy steel is forged at an initial temperature of about 2250ºF
(1230ºC) to approximately 1700ºF (925ºC.) Before quenching
heat treatment or carburizing. The alloy is air cooled after forging.

6.ASTM 8620 Steel Heat Treatment

8620 steel can be provided full annealing with heat up to 820 ¡æ - 850 ¡æ, and hold
until the temperature is uniform throughout the section and cooled in an oven
or air cooled.

purified heat and water hardened parts of 8620 steels (not
carburizing) is performed at 400 F to 1300 F to improve the toughness of the case with
minimal impact on its hardness. It will also reduce the possibility

AISI 8620 steel will be austenitized at around 840 ¡ã C - 870 ¡ã C, while oil
or water extinguished depending on section size and entanglement. Chill in the air

or oil is required.
Normalization
1675ºF

(910ºC) and air cooling. This is another way to improve machinability

in 8620 material; rationing can also be used up to the occasion
hardening.

7. Machinability SAE 8620 Steel
Steel alloy 8620 is easily processed after heat treatment and / or
carburizing should be at least so as not to worsen the hardened
part case. Processing can be done with conventional means before
heat treatment - after machining, carburizing is usually limited to
grinding.

8. Welding 8620 materials

These
Alloy 8620 can be welded in rolled condition using conventional methods like
usually gas or arc welding. Preheating at 400 F is beneficial and
Post-heating post-weld recommended - refer to approved
welding procedure for the method used. However, welding in the case
hardened or hardened condition is not recommended

9. Application of ASTM 8620 Steel
8620 steel material is widely used by all sectors of the industry for
light to medium emphasized components and shafts requiring high surface
wear resistance with reasonable core strength and impact properties.
